Praittenbrunn 2012

Phwoar! What can I say? This is a showstopper Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot cuvée from Burgenland, Austria. I gave it 4.5 stars on Vivino. It’s the result of a collaboration between Florian Gayer and Erich Scheiblhofer that blends the best grapes from the Leithaberg overlooking Neusiedlersee.

Tasting notes

Boy it’s a good looking wine in the glass. The deep, dark purple colour and ruby reflections give a first hint of its elegance. There’s concentrated black fruit aromas with lots of dark chocolate, some cherry and cassis, and hints of wood and cigars. It fills the mouth with layers of flavours, from juicy dark fruits and sweet sticky jam to warming spice with soft, round tannins and a very long chocolatey, almost earthy finish.

This wine is great for drinking and great for ageing. If you’re drinking it, decant when you wake up and it’ll be at its very best in the evening.
